Infinidat poaches Gartner analyst

Stanley Zaffos, the Gartner research VP, has left the analyst firm to take charge of Infinibox product marketing at Infinidat.

Zaffos is an 22-year Gartner veteran and specialised in infrastructure and operations management. Before Gartner he worked for 12 years on storage strategy at Amdahl.

Zaffos’ LinkedIn bio says he has a “Comprehensive knowledge of SAN and NAS storage systems, architectures and technologies,SSD deployment strategies, storage cost optimisation strategies, green IT, cloud storage and cloud gateway appliances, archival storage, storage array replication, storage networking and virtualization, storage consolidation, and storage system pricing.”

At Infinidat he will direct product marketing for Infinibox, the high-end memory-cached and multi-protocol disk drive array that competes with IBM’s DS8000, Dell EMC’s PowerMAX, Hitachi Vantara’s VSP, and HPE and NetApp high-end kit.

Zaffos joins other established Gartner analysts who have crossed over to the suppliers they analysed. A year ago Rubrik and Veeam hired five between them.

  1. Dave Russell went to Veeam
  2. Pushan Rinnen joined Rubrik
  3. Ray Scafer also joined Rubrik
  4. JP Corriveau moved to Veeam
  5. Robert Rhame was hired by Rubrik

Score 3:2 to Rubrik. Is there going to be another May time departure round at Gartner? Spring is in the air. Sap is rising. Maybe other storage companies will want to hang a Gartner analyst trophy their wall.
