PATA – Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment protocol, also known as IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics). An old protocol for connecting storage drives to host systems. It was initially designed for IBM PC-compatible computers and cables have a maximum length of 18 in (457 mm), limiting PATA device use to inside the host computer system’s enclosure.
