Object Storage – This is a set of data items with a unique numeric identity created by applying a mathematical process to the data item’s binary values. The objects can then be located in a numeric space by this unique number. Every data item has a name, such as “Chris Mellor X-ray 26 Nov 2022”, which an object storage device control system maps to an object number and uses that to locate the object in a flat (non-nested) scheme using object storage devices. Since the object’s unique number is obtained by manipulating its binary contents the object storage scheme can be called a Content Addressing System (CAS).
