Dell UMPC using STEC SSDs
posted on 15 August 2008 16:25
According to a source Dell has a soon-to-be launched ultra-mobile notebook computer which will use STEC solid state drives (SSD)
The UMPC machine is being built by contract manufacturers somewhere in Asia and will have 4 and 8GB STEC SSDs in it. Apparently 1 million units are involved and STEC might receive up to $30 million for it, assuming a $4 per GB price. STEC has said its inventory increased recently.
Nothing was said by Dell about the coming UMPC at its recent Latitude upgrade announcement.
STEC recently said it has gained a design win at an enterprise server and storage OEM and one of the potential candidates was Dell.
