Spectra's new tape library for SMEs

posted on 06 August 2008 08:33

Starts at under $11,000

SpectraLogic has made its T50 tape libary, first introduced in 2005, available to SMEs in a T50e version with a starting price below $11,000.

The new T50e offers:-

- 10 to 50 slots utilizing Spectra Capacity-On-Demand.  When growth needs exceed 80 TB, T50e users can TranScale to the larger Spectra T120 to more than double their capacity.

- Takes less than half an hour to install and set up. It’s compatible with all major backup packages and operating systems, and provides a choice of connectivity options—either direct-connect SCSI, Fibre Channel or iSCSI. Physically, the 4U library can be rack-mounted or used on a tabletop.

- Dual port FC drives for redundant connectivity and higher availability. Failover between the ports can be manual or automatic.

- All major components of the T50e are customer replaceable. The Assisted Self Maintenance (ASM) option allows users to stage spares components on-site for fast replacement. Drives and power supplies are hot swappable.

- Media Lifecycle Management offers proactive notification of faulty tape media, recording 30 system data points on each tape, giving statistical and diagnostic information to help administrators reduce drive and tape errors.

- Encryption and power monitoring.

Molly Rector, Spectra Logic's VP of marketing and product management, said: "We developed the T50e based on customer demand for an easy-to-install storage library that offered enterprise-class feature set and top-notch reliability. Extending the Spectra T-series library options to our T50e meets all of these needs affordably: the T50e is simply a better library for SME needs."

Pricing for a one-LTO-3 drive SCSI T50e, which begins shipping in late August, starts at $10,800.
