STEC's new storage partner is HDS

Two little STEC nuggets:-
- A source within Hitachi Data Systems confirmed indirectly that HDS is the new STEC storage customer. We might expect an October announcement from HDS.
- EMC said it will add STEC SSDs to its Celerra NAS systems.
That latter point might be due to NetApp coming out with its Performance Acceleration Module and Storage Acceleration Appliance.
There is a pricing puzzle though. The SSD price on Symmetrix is said to be affordable because it delivers more cost-effective performance than short-stroked Fibre Channel drives and their bought but wasted capacity.
It's a bit of a stretch to think that top-end CLARiiON configurations are being short-stroked in the same way for performance and even more of a stretch to conceive of short-stroked Celerras.
The pricing of CLARiiON and Celerra SSDs will be interesting to understand.
