Sym and XIV expectations

Announcements coming
The speculation/expectation mills have ground out these snippets:
1. EMC will announce thin provisioning for Symmetrix next week with a ship date in October. (Mind you this is not exactly 'fresh' news, EMC having prefigured it in a January release, as an EMC person pointed out! Another EMC'r points out its been shipping since March. Duh! You read it here last.)
2. IBM is talking to potential customers about its XIV (extremely scalable storage arrays) and has a few pilot explore-the-concept installations in place. XIV will not be marketed to replace the DS8000. We might expect a Q4 period announcement this year.
Take these two prescriptions with a large pinch of salt.
