UK survey shows risible email DLP

Wide open email door negates data loss prevention aims

Mimecast has come up a gem of a survey in the UK: a wonderfully high (from Mimecast's point of view) 94 percent of companies have no effective data loss prevention (DLP) measure in place that will stop employees emailing confidential information to whomsoever they please.

A mere six out of every 100 businesses would detect the attempt and stop it. The survey showed that about two thirds of the companies would detect the data loss after the fact but a third would never know it had happened.

DLP software is expensive. A DLP loss can be very expensive and the suggested Mimecast remedy is to use the company's email management service.
