Flash: Seagate SSDs still coming
posted on 16 July 2008 15:53
Seagate will deliver its own branded flash memory solid state drives (SSD) in 2009.
So said Finance SVP Patrick O’Malley in the company's earnings call. However it will be flash-phut and not flash-bang as it will not materially affect Seagate's earnings in 2009.
This is a toe-dipping exercise.
There is no information available concerning controller technology and sourcing, interfaces, markets to be addressed or flash chip supply sourcing. The limited earnings impact being predicted suggests that it will be a low volume market.
