Release: IT Can Finally Take A Well-Earned Vacation
posted on 09 July 2008 09:16
HOUSTON (Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Booth #708)—July 8, 2008—Teneros (www.teneros.com) today announced that the San Diego Convention Center has joined the ranks of Teneros customers by selecting the Teneros Application Continuity Appliances™ for high availability and disaster recovery of Microsoft® Exchange. The appliances assure 24x7 email communications with clients and vendors in the event of a technology failure or a natural/man-made disaster.
In the 19 years, since the Center opened in 1989, it has generated nearly $15.2 billion in economic benefit and over $309.8 million in tax revenues to the region. The Center, serving as San Diego's premier gathering place, hosted more than 220 events generating approximately 8,000 jobs county-wide in 2007.
Award Winning Convention Center Selects Teneros to Uphold its Service Excellence
To assure their record of revenue generation for the region, the Convention Center must consistently deliver service excellence. In 2007, the Center received an Inner Circle Award from Association Meetings magazine for being one of the top-rated convention centers in the nation. This prestigious award recognizes convention centers that demonstrate the highest caliber service for their clients.
Lynn Ewing, director of information systems for the San Diego Convention Center, is responsible for the IT infrastructure that powers operations. Ewing manages the Center's Exchange server supporting 300 employees, many of whom depend on their mobile devices running email that is extremely time-sensitive for successful convention center operation and activities. The Center's employees are spread across the country and work out of the headquarters in San Diego, as well as satellite office in Chicago and Washington DC. 24x7 email uptime is business critical because a large percentage of the Center's client communications are via email.
"We cannot afford to miss any communication with our clients," said Ewing. "The ROI of the Teneros solution is obvious. If a client needed a response from us by 3 p.m., and our email goes down, we could lose millions of dollars of economic impact for San Diego."
First-Hand Experience with Painful Email Outages
Like many businesses, email communication for the San Diego Convention Center is time critical so outages are not an option. Prior to installing the Teneros appliances, fear of downtime prevented well-earned and worry-free rest and vacations for the IT team.
The Convention Center experienced, in Ewing's words, a "wrenching four-day outage." He and his staff were napping in their cars and working around-the-clock with Microsoft to trouble shoot and fix the problem. They were also forced to contact their clients by telephone in order to notify them of the email outage and to tell them that any contact had to be via telephone – a difficult situation across time zones with busy schedules.
Ewing added, "Before Teneros, we had a major fear of email failure. Since installing the Teneros appliance, my quality of life has changed. I'm taking my family to Europe on vacation. This isn't something I felt comfortable doing before installing the Teneros appliance. I now have the comfort level of knowing that the Teneros appliance will keep email flowing."
Teneros Offers Undeniable Value and ROI for Greenhill with 1300 Days of Uninterrupted Email
Teneros Application Continuity Appliances end email downtime for businesses by delivering local high availability and remote disaster recovery of Microsoft Exchange. According to Ferris Research, an estimated 65 percent of businesses worldwide depend on Exchange for their email communications. These companies must prevent email outages when Exchange goes down or needs to be taken down for maintenance.
The IT team at the San Diego Convention Center is looking forward to the email uptime enjoyed by the ranks of Teneros customers including Greenhill and Co., one of the first to deploy a Teneros appliance. John Shaffer, IT director for Greenhill, offered, "We have had over 1300 days of uninterrupted email continuity thanks to our Teneros appliance. You can't beat the value of the Teneros product."
Teneros' offering provides around-the-clock email uptime for businesses running Microsoft Exchange by utilizing Teneros' Instant-On™ failover technology. The Teneros appliances require no reconfiguration of, modification to, or additional software on the production Exchange server or network infrastructure and they can be installed in the customer's network in 20 minutes. The appliances are remotely monitored, maintained and updated from Teneros' Network Operations Center, and the appliances use transactional integrity validation—Teneros' proprietary, real-time data verification technology—to prevent replication of Exchange data corruption onto the Teneros appliances. These features earn accolades from customers because Teneros appliances are truly hands-free IT™ solutions, lightening the burden for in-house IT staffs everywhere.
