MindServer Legal and Decisiv Email solutions empower intelligent navigation of vast, global data repositories

Recommind, a leading provider of enterprise search, email management and eDisclosure systems for enterprises and law firms, today announced that Reed Smith LLP, one of the 15 largest law firms in the world, has selected Recommind’s MindServer Legal solution as the backbone for the firm’s knowledge management platform.

The implementation of Recommind’s MindServer Legal platform will enable Reed Smith’s broad network of over 3,200 lawyers, paralegals, consultants and support staff to quickly locate relevant knowledge and expertise across the firm’s 22 offices throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States. By providing more efficient access to all relevant pieces of information within the firm, Reed Smith partners, associates and paralegals will save valuable time, thereby facilitating even better client service. In addition to MindServer Legal Enterprise Search, Recommind’s market-leading search application, Reed Smith has purchased Recommind’s Decisiv Email solution.

"Reed Smith's knowledge management platform needs to accommodate our vast network of lawyers around the globe. We evaluated several solutions and quickly realised that the other products do not provide the usability, relevance and structure needed to effectively access the vast amount of knowledge we generate," said Tom Baldwin, chief knowledge officer, Reed Smith. "Our new knowledge management solution, built on the MindServer platform, brings the right content – in context – to the people who need it, allowing us to focus on what we do best: giving our clients the best service available. Additionally, using Recommind's unique Matters and Expertise locator, Reed Smith's lawyers and staff now have a system that automatically leverages our broad knowledge base of experience across the entire firm by allowing us to instantly find the most experienced lawyer for any type of situation imaginable. With the rapid pace of our firm’s growth, giving our lawyers across the globe an understanding of everyone’s experience was paramount in our decision to purchase the MindServer platform."

“Recommind is proud to provide the cutting-edge information and expertise discovery infrastructure that will power Reed Smith’s knowledge management infrastructure,” said Bob Tennant, Recommind CEO. “As one of the top 15 largest firms in the world, it is a powerful validation of our scalability, relevance and automation that Reed Smith chose Recommind technology for such a critical role at the firm. We are proud to help them navigate their vast stores of expertise, knowledge, and electronically stored information – employees now have a quick and intuitive means of finding, sharing and applying that information, regardless of the repository in which a piece of information may reside.”

The Reed Smith implementation will include the following components of MindServer Legal:

* Enterprise Search, which utilises powerful concept-based search capabilities to connect lawyers and staff with relevant information located in the firm's document management system, contact database, and portal systems, plus a myriad of other applications and databases. For selected offices, Enterprise Search also federates content from external resources such as the Practical Law Company’s (PLC) database of legal know-how resources, to deliver seamless substantive content from internal and external sources.

* Matters & Expertise, which provides a comprehensive, firm-wide view of matters, deals, cases, and the vast array of experience across a firm by tapping into a variety of information sources such as time and billing systems, CRM applications, portals, internal firm matter and case databases, and other information repositories.

* Auto-File, which frees lawyers and paralegals from the burden of filling in data fields manually. Users simply save a document in the firm's document management system, and Auto-File automatically handles the electronic filing details. Based on the same technology that enables Recommind's concept searching, Auto-File uses cues and context to match data to corresponding data fields.
