posted on 18 June 2008 05:44
IDC figures show mid-range tape drive shipments grew 10 percent in 2007 with LTO drive sales growing 15 percent, showing LTO consolidation of the mid-range tape market proceeding strongly.
According to IDC, over $883.1 million of LTO tape drives shipped in 2007. The format’s adoption in tape automation is up three percent from the end of 2006.(1) Robert Amatruda, the reporting IDC analyst, said: “The LTO share numbers demonstrate that LTO tape continues to thrive."
Disk-to-disk backup and virtual tape library use are growing strongly but tape is holding its own as a green backup target of last resort.
