posted on 09 June 2008 13:15
win.rar GmbH and rarlab.com are proud to announce the first beta version of the new WinRAR 3.80. Version 3.80 is yet another step ahead for the most complete archiving software on the market.
Highlights of the 3.80 (beta 1) release are:
- Now WinRAR is supporting Zip Archives in UTF-8 Format as well as WinZip AES encrypted Zip Archives.
- Furthermore, WinRAR is providing its users with more flexibility, which additionally strengthens the usability of the context menu. Users can now add different parameters to the context menu under the option "Add to Context Menu" in "Profile parameters" dialog, so that each individual profile will be displayed at the Explorer context menu.
- To improve user's safety and the ease of managing archives, the "Ask before overwrite" and "Skip existing files" update modes are now available in archiving dialog.
- Another new security enhancement feature is the "Wipe temporary files" option in the "Settings/Security" dialog, which provides a more secure way to delete temporary WinRAR files. Besides there is a new "Options" page that allows modifying the behavior of "Deleted files after archiving". The user has now the possibility to either: delete the file, move the file to the Recycle Bin, or wipe the file (prevent recovery of deleted files).
These are just some of the features that have been added or improved. More information on all of other improved items can be found here: www.win-rar.com/whatsnew.html.
Of course and as always, the upgrade to 3.80 is absolutely free for all registered users. Upgrading is quick and easy. Users only need to download and install the newest version of WinRAR to continue using the best compression tool around. No complicated uninstalling of the previous version is necessary.
About WinRAR
WinRAR is a 32-bit Windows version of RAR Archiver, the powerful archiver and archive manager. RAR files can usually compress content up to 30 percent better than ZIP files. WinRAR's main features are very strong general and multimedia compression, processing of non-RAR archives, long filename support, programmable self-extracting archives(SFX), damaged archive repair, authenticity verification, embedded file comments, and encryption. WinRAR is available in over 45 different languages and runs on Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP/Vista.
The command line version RAR is available for Linux, DOS, OS/2, FreeBSD and MAC OS X. Pocket RAR, the free WinRAR version for Pocket PCs, WinRAR for U3 and the new WinRAR Unplugged complete the compression product range. So WinRAR simply is "The Size Solution".
