EMC says computers are making office workers less efficient

Too much printing: use Documentum and help save the planet

EMC Documentum is 'green spinning' the results of a UK survey that found office workers spent 52 minutes daily searching for e-mails and print out 67 paper pages a day.

The European part of the company, led by John O’Melia, EMEA Content Management & Archiving VP, reckons that better-filed or organised information would cut the time spent searching for e-mails and also reduce the need to print documents. It says 52 minutes a day adds up to two months a year and that this is wasted time; computers are making workers inefficient.

Further, printing out documents to counter mis-filing on computer systems costs UK businesses £11 billion per year.

Melia commented on this: “The message that companies need to take responsibility for their carbon footprints as a whole is hitting home, but it’s clear from this survey that more can be done on a day-to-day level. The increasing volume of information is pushing businesses to the limits – in terms of information management and being ‘green’. EMC’s mission is to provide tools and technology that help users be more productive, access information they need when and where they need it, help to reduce paper and improve business process efficiencies. Our offerings can help companies save tremendous amounts of money and improve “green IT” projects.”

So there it is, use Documentum electronic content management systems, stop workers wasting time, cut the printing bill and help save the plant.
