Netezza appliance uses EMC CLARiiON array
posted on 20 May 2008 07:24
Netezza, a supplier of data warehousing appliances, is OEM'ing EMC CLARiiON drive arrays in its appliances for data protection purposes.
In this new OEM deal announced today, Netezza will bring the CLARiiON AX4 array into its Performance Server data warehouse appliance and position it as an enterprise product with near-line storage capacity and data staging capability for loading, backup and disaster recovery activities. This isn't for business intelligence (BI) I/O-intensive work.
The idea is to capitalise on EMC-using customers in Netezza's market as Netezza president and CEO Jim Burns explained: “EMC has a prominent position in the market for large-scale information storage and information management deployments and as a consequence, in Netezza’s customer base. This new partnership bolsters our capability to automate enterprise data management operations for our customers and will allow us to further increase our footprint in the market through co-marketing initiatives.”
EMC was, naturally, delighted with Chick Hollis, its global marketing CTO, saying: “EMC plays a major role in managing the information that powers modern data warehouses, and we are pleased to have our industry-leading storage solutions integrated with the Netezza data warehouse appliance.”
It's a tactical move and its aimed both at having better BI data protection and selling more effectively into EMC shops.
