IBM announces new storage software and hardware

IBM has announced new SAN switches and NetApp-sourced software.
Based on Brocade's new 8Gbit/s SAN edge switches, IBM has announced the SAN24B-4, SAN 40B-4 and SAN80B-4 with 20, 40 and 80 ports respectively.
IBM has announced new Cisco-sourced switch blades for its 8Gbit/s SAN256B director. There is also a SAN04B-r 4-port router for SMB customers. Cisco's MDS9124 Express for IBM System Storage Fabric Switch product is also supported. This is for IBM's channel when selling IBM BladeCenter and System x servers.
From NetApp comes the following software in IBM's N series line:-
- Provisioning Manager which automates priovisioning for N series drive array products
- FlexCache, a facility to speed accessing N series hardware
- FlexScale with a Performance Acceleration Module to speed up N series hardware product performance via a 16GB accelerator card.
The Provisioning Manager is priced from $680 and available in June. The FlexCache software is included at no charge with N series products. The Performance Acceleration Module is priced from $42,200.
The SAN24B-4 is priced from $5,630.
IBM has not announced support for Brocade's new 8Gbit/s HBAs.
