Asigra Televauting ramps up virtual server and managed services support
posted on 14 May 2008 09:37
Asigra has updated its televaulting product so that, multiple DS-Clients in a grid can send data to multiple DS-System vaults. It provides better scalability in protected data centers and enhanced vault security.
Asigra Televaulting is an agentless disk-to-disk backup and recovery product which replicates encrypted and deduplicated backup data to a remote DS-System functioning as a vault or repository. It is in use by hundreds of global service providers who deliver managed backup services to protect more than 50,000 locations internationally.
There is no agent software in the protected servers but there is a DS-Client server in the protected data center. At the remote vault Asigra BLM software can move older data off the front line disks to lower cost drives to lower costs.
Televaulting 8.0 adds:-
- VMware ESXi support - Asigra says it is the first to support this and all popular virtual server platforms. A physical or virtual machine (VM) can be backed up and restored to either a virtual or a physical server in an any-to-any scheme.
- Intellligent archiving with the automated and policy-driven movement of data between storage tiers, from Fibre Channel drives to SATA drives and MAID arrays, in the remote vault. Data can be retained for up to 21 years. (This effectively integrates BLM into the DS-System product.)
- Multi-directional data center replication with a DS-Client replicating data to one or several remote DS-System vaults for added security.
- Better application support for SAP, SharePoint, Oracle, MS-SQL, DB2, MS-Exchange, Lotus Notes, GroupWise and more
- On-demand scalability with DS-Client support for multiple DS-Client systems in a grid to provide more scalable backup services in a data center. This enables Asigra to better support its managed services clients who could need to scale up or down their data protection services at a moments notice.
The software supports bare metal recovery and its deployment can be automated. Asigra claims that its 'enterprise application-aware platform provides the most powerful virtual server backup and recovery capabilities available by any vendor to significantly reduce both capital and operational expenses associated with protecting virtualized environments. ... Televaulting scales both up and out, allowing performance and capacity to be scaled independently.'
