Mozy on down to Macs

EMC is extending its Mozy on-line cloud backup service to Macs, the first such service for Apple's iconic computers.
Vance Checketts, Mozy COO, said MozyHome for Mac shows EMC's seriousness about extending the applicability of its Mozy offering, Mozy being vital to EMC's cloud storage as a service vision.
How does it compare to the Mac's Time Machine backup? "We think local backup through Time Machine is great; complementary to what Mozy does. Local backups provide redundancy of primary data. But thissecond copy can experience the samerisks as the primary copy: drive failure; theft; damage; etc. MozyHome for Mac offers protection against these risks."
Think disaster recovery for Macs. MozyHome for Mac is always available. As long as there is an Internet connection Mac users can get to there files from anywhere on Earth.
Checketts said: "We're also announcing MozyPro and MozyEnterprise will be released for the Mac this summmer."
Files to be backed up are encrypted with 448-bit Blowfish encryption and transferred via a 128-bit SSL connection, as used in online banking. After the initial backup, only incremental changes to files and folders are backed up, meaning subsequent backups run quickly. As well as the most recent backup, Mozy keeps 30 days' worth of file versions. In the event of data loss, files may be recovered via the Mozy client software, downloaded from the Mozy website, or by ordering the files on a set of DVDs from Mozy.
EMC's Mozy service has over 6.2 billion files backed up, representing 7.5PB of data belonging to more than 700,000 users.
MozyHome for Mac offers 2 gigabytes of online backup absolutely free with no expiration date, or $4.95 a month for unlimited online backup capacity.
