Isilon gets Magic Quadrant Boost
posted on 08 April 2008 17:20
Clustered filer supplier Isilon, struggling to regain positive support from financial analyst's after an appalling 2007, senior management changes, and a refusal to forecast when profitability will be reached, has been given a boost by Gartner.
Isilon has been included as a player in the Gartner "Magic Quadrant for Midrange and High-End NAS Solutions, 1H08" report. Only Isilon doesn't say which quadrant it has been placed by Gartner
- NetApp has been placed in the Leaders box for its enterprise NAS products.
- BlueArc has been positioned in the Visionaries quadrant.
- Panasas has also been placed in the Visionaries box.
We can be fairly confident that if Isilon had been placed in either the Visionaries or Leaders boxes then it would be saying so. We can assume then that it is either a Niche player or a Challenger, along with SGI which has also announced its inclusion by Gartner but not its actual box.
Nevertheless, Isilon CEO, Sujal Patel, is quite pleased. Isilon has nearly doubled its customer base in 2007 and, as of today, has nearly 750 customers and has reached a milestone with 10,000 clustered storage systems shipped.
One day, we're sure he hopes, Isilon will be in one of the big two boxes.
