Verari's bladed storage weapon
posted on 08 April 2008 11:12
Blade-based computer and storage supplier Verari has announced the densest and most energy-efficient unified NAS/iSCSI storage blade in the industry; its StorageServer appliance.
The SB5165XL StorageServer is for use in Verari's BladeRack 2XL platform and comprises an SB1165 server blade and one or two SB1056 disk blades (pictured) offering up to 24TB of RAID 6-protected hard disk storage.
Verari says it provides appliance-like manageability and combines file-based network-attached storage (NAS) and iSCSI block-based storage in one product. Target applications include web 2.0, social networking and media archiving service suppliers.
A BladeRack 2XL can house 24 StorageServers with up to 576TB of capacity in an area of just two data centre floor tiles.
A containerised Verari FOREST data centre can house 12PB of StorageServer capacity.
Verari says the SB5165XL provides up to 50 percent energy use savings and 77 percent better data centre floor space utilisation than other unfied storage - think Fujitsu, Reldata and Nimbus - or separate NAS and iSCSI storage products.
The StorageServer will be available in May.
There is more to come. Dan Gatti, Verari's SVP for marketing, said: “The SB5165XL StorageServer appliance is the first of several new products to come from our recently announced Storage Group.”
