Toshiba's 128GB SSD Dynabook
posted on 19 March 2008 14:06
Toshiba is going to launch a Dynabook notebook computer with a 128GB flash solid state disk (SSD) installed. It will be a Japan-only option at first and Toshiba says it will be the world's first such notebook.
The Dynabook SS RX will feature a 1.2GHz Core Duo CPU, a 12.1-inch half-transmissive LCD sceen with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and 12.5 hours of battery life from the 5800 battery, in a thin format approaching but not meeting that of the MacBook air.
The dimensions are 25.5mm thick by 2,830mm wide by 215.8mm deep, and a weight of 983g. A shorter-life battery drops the weight to 863g.
The flash memory uses a multi-level cell design to attain the 128GB capacity level.
There are several models in the range, including ones for over-the-counter retail , online order, and business use, with the first model being released on March 25th.
We can expect Apple and Lenovo, two other flash notebook devotees, to follow suit as no notebook manufacturer will want to cede bragging rights to the competition.
The Dynabook SS RX will cost a cool $4,240 or so. Customers may choose an 80GB hard drive instead and forego the flash markup.
