Moonwalk Provides Internet Storage-Capable Enterprise Archive, Disaster Recovery Solution for Amazon S3

Milton, Australia – February 26, 2008 – Moonwalk Inc. today announced that the latest version of its all-inclusive data management and protection software enables customers to take advantage of huge cost efficiencies that Internet Storage affords via file system interconnectivity with leading Web-based storage service providers.
Moonwalk has been taking a leadership position in providing Internet Storage archive and backup solutions.
Enhanced to work with the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Moonwalk provides “last mile” connectivity for Windows, Netware, OES2, Suse and RedHat system users without the need for them to develop their own Amazon S3 integration. With virtually unlimited capacity, the Moonwalk solution enables immediate Internet storage of old and infrequently used files, freeing up expensive primary storage without the need to purchase additional hardware. Data stored through Moonwalk’s Internet Storage solution is fully protected with failover provided within Amazon S3.
“Amazon S3 was designed to allow organizations to store any amount of data inexpensively and securely, while ensuring that the data will always be available when needed,” said Steve Rabuchin, Director of Developer Relations for Amazon Web Services. “We’re pleased to support Moonwalk’s Internet Storage Archive and Backup solution.”
“With the promise of storing and delivering data immediately, securely and inexpensively, Internet Storage is quickly becoming a highly desired way to offload infrequently accessed files from primary storage,” said Peter Harvey, CEO of Moonwalk. “Our solution brings to enterprises the benefits of virtually unlimited storage without the costs or ownership hassles, provides ‘emergency’ storage and is much greener than an in-house solution.”
Moonwalk software delivers data management with metadata-level precision for all information on network storage, servers and clients. It proactively migrates, copies and moves data according to user-defined rules and policies based on criteria such as age, size, file type, file name, file creator and many more granular classification rules. Moonwalk operates across and between all major file systems, including Windows, UNIX, Linux and Netware environments, and all primary and secondary storage environments. Its stateless architecture requires no additional overhead and is completely transparent to users and applications, with no introduced points of potential failure to ensuring maximum performance and availability.
With Moonwalk, applying even one simple rule of moving all files one year or older onto secondary storage can result in an immediate halving in primary storage; applying additional rules typically results in significantly higher capacity savings in some cases in the order of 90 percent.
