Research discovery hints at storage possibility
Tiny dots of a protein substance could - I stress could, may be, might be - be used as a storage medium.
Here is a sentence from the concluding remarks of a scientific paper: "We established a novel, rapid method for fabricating a protein recording material, which shows recording, reading, and erasing information, by a photochemical technique."
The next sentence mentions a recording process taking a minute. So a lot, an enormous amount of work needs to be done before this mote in the eye of scientific researchers in Japan becomes a commercially-feasible idea.
The scientific paper is available as a PDF download.
