Virtualising I/O Intensive Applications Using VMware: A Microsoft SQL Server Case Study - and the DCX

As CIOs and IT departments face increasing pressure to streamline data centre resources and increase server utilisation, they must be able to efficiently adapt to the dynamic needs of the ‘virtualised’ data centre.

Brocade(R) (Nasdaq: BRCD), the leader in networked storage solutions that help enterprises connect and manage their information, will be hosting a technical break-out session at VMWorld 2008 (26-28 February, Cannes) that will provide IT professionals with the information they need to fully maximise the evolving data centre environment.

In addition to having experts on-hand at booth #41 to provide attending IT professionals with the tools to leverage virtualisation solutions in the next generation data centre, Brocade’s break-out session at VMWorld 2008 will be a real-life case study on how to achieve this. Entitled “Virtualising I/O Intensive Applications Using VMware: A Microsoft SQL Server Case Study”, the session will be presented by Owen Higginson, Brocade’s Solutioneer, Office of the CTO (28 February, 09:00hrs in Room Ver Californie).

Brocade will also be demonstrating its Adaptive Networking Services, which addresses the need to dynamically manage virtualisation in the data centre, and how the new Brocade DCX™ Backbone (receiving its European public debut) provides IT departments with the tools to successfully manage virtual traffic across the network.

The deployment of shared storage is critical to getting full value out of a data centre’s VMware investments. To address new virtualisation challenges, the data centre network must be able to rapidly and intelligently adapt in order to assign the appropriate resources, workloads, and service levels to corporate applications as they move and operate in a virtualised environment — a concept known as Adaptive Networking.

Last month, Brocade announced the DCX backbone – this product supports scalability and the end-to-end management features necessary for deploying mission critical virtualised server applications. At VMWorld 2008, Brocade will be illustrating how it is working with VMware to make this process pain-free for organisations across the globe.
